Fly Fishing Devon is run by Geoff Stephens and Paul Kenyon who are qualified game angling coaches, experienced and enthusiastic teachers and anglers.
Geoff Stephens Geoff Stephens lives in Chagford half a mile from the river Teign and within easy distance of the Dartmoor lakes and streams used by him and Paul.

Geoff's favourite fishing is for brown trout on the wilds of Dartmoor.

Paul Kenyon Paul lives in Ivybridge which is about 10 miles east of Plymouth on the southern edge of Dartmoor.

Paul devotes more time than is reasonable to his lifelong love of all things associated with trout and Dartmoor rivers.

Before he retired Paul lectured on the biological bases of behaviour and evolutionary psychology in the Department of Psychology, University of Plymouth.

Paul now has time to explore his fascination with trout and rivers.

He is particularly interested in:
  • the application of ethology to understanding why a trout takes an artificial fly, more ...
  • the application of single-handed Spey casts on small and medium-sized rivers, more ...

Geoff and Paul  have the following qualifications:

  • A Game Angling Instructors Certificate (GAIC),
  • A Level 2 Certificate in Coaching Angling (L2CCA)
  • An Emergency First Aid Certificate
  • A Criminal Records Bureau (CRB) Enhanced Disclosure Certificate
  • Insurance cover through the Angling Development Board (ADB) coach licensing scheme
  • and a commitment to continued professional development (CPD)

The Game Angling Instructors Certificate and the Level 2 Certificate in Coaching Angling are awarded after candidates have demonstrated their ability to instruct beginners and experienced game anglers of all ages and abilities. The examination tests the candidates ability to teach safe and effective casting techniques, their knowledge of the life cycles and behaviour of fish and insects. In addition qualified instructors can give objective advice on choosing suitable equipment, as well as guidance on appropriate tactics, angling safety and angling law.

In order to ensure that our conduct towards clients, fish and the environment is safe and professional, we have adopted the code of practice drawn up the Devon Fly Fishing Guides Association (DFFGA).
