Fishing Instruction at The Old Rectory Diptford

Fly Fishing Devon is pleased to offer instruction to guests staying at The Old Rectory on a private stretch of the Devonshire Avon at Diptford. The Old Rectory offers luxury bed and breakfast in a beautiful Georgian house. Diptford is located in the South Hams Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty on the southern edge of Dartmoor.

We are delighted to be able to revive teaching fishing and fly casting on the Avon which was begun in 1919 by Mr J.B.S. "Jack" Notley who was born in Diptford Rectory in 1893. Mr Notley taught on this stretch of the river until shortly before his death in 1988.

He described the Avon as "one of the finest Trout streams in the West Country. Little known and little fished, a grand fly river and no short risers. I have fished it over 40 years and much prefer it to any of the numerous rivers I have fished including the Kennett and Lambourn."
Paul has been pitting his wits against the Avon's trout for only 30 years but agrees with Jack Notley's sentiment.
